Brushing your hair is a daily gesture, but did you know that it’s not just for detangling? This simple gesture brings many benefits to your hair. Discover in our article by La Bonne Brosse what its benefits are and how to choose your hairbrush properly.
The benefits of brushing hair
Scalp stimulation
When brushing your hair, blood circulation is stimulated, which helps provide the scalp with the nutrients and oxygen it needs to stay healthy. Hair growth is also promoted.
A healthy scalp is the first step to having healthy and strong hair.
Distribution of sebum and hydration
Sebum, produced by the sebaceous glands, is a natural protector. Brushing your hair helps distribute it evenly from roots to ends, thereby hydrating and protecting the hair fiber.
Removing impurities
In addition to distributing sebum, brushing helps remove impurities such as dust, styling product residues, and pollution particles. This mechanical cleansing allows you to wash your hair less frequently.
How to brush your hair properly?
Choosing the right hairbrush
Choosing your brush should not be random. Indeed, each hair type has specific needs, which is why it is necessary to choose a suitable brush.
To meet the needs of every hair type, La Bonne Brosse has designed 5 hairbrushes:
Boar bristle brush N.01: Equipped with boar bristles rich in keratin, this brush hydrates the hair while distributing sebum. The hair becomes textured, shiny, and hydrated. This boar bristle brush suits all hair types; however, if you have curly hair, prefer using it in the evening to preserve your curls.
Detangling brush N.02: Thanks to the combination of boar bristles and nylon pins, this hairbrush has many advantages and is suitable for all hair types. The nylon pins help detangle the hair and provide a stimulating scalp massage, while the boar bristles hydrate the hair fiber.
Sensitive scalp brush N.03: Just like brush N.02, hairbrush N.03 is equipped with a mix of boar bristles and nylon pins. However, it features small balls at the tips of the pins, making it gentle for sensitive scalps.
Massaging brush N.04: This vegan brush has nylon pins that gently detangle all hair types while offering a revitalizing scalp massage. Blood circulation is thus stimulated, promoting hair growth.
Curly hair brush N.07: If you have curly, frizzy, thick, or textured hair, the stimulating brush N.07 is perfect for you. Its nylon pins, arranged at two heights, allow optimal detangling. It offers a revitalizing massage that stimulates microcirculation for healthy hair.
Learning the right brushing techniques
When should you brush your hair ?
The frequency of brushing depends on your hair type.
Straight or wavy hair :
In the morning, brush your hair to detangle and stimulate blood circulation.
In the evening, brush again to remove the day's buildup and distribute sebum.
Curly, frizzy, or coily hair :
For this hair type, start with gentle detangling on dry hair before shampooing. Then, after washing, do a second brushing on damp hair to avoid breaking your curls.
What is the best way to brush your hair ?
To preserve your hair’s health, it's essential to use the right brushing technique.
Always start by detangling the ends, then gradually work your way up to the roots. This technique limits breakage and gently, effectively detangles the hair.
Avoid brushing your hair when it is completely wet, as it is more fragile. Prefer brushing on slightly damp hair, using a suitable brush. Brushes N.04 and N.07 are ideal for use on damp hair. Conversely, boar bristle brushes are not recommended to preserve their effectiveness and longevity.
