This summer, adopt the slow hair routine

Slow food, slow life, slow cities... Slow down movements are on the rise. What’s their goal? To reduce stress levels induced by our lifestyle. As our hair can be a source of intense stress when it acts out, at La Bonne Brosse we strongly advise you to take advantage of this summer to put your hair in slow mode. More specifically: revisit our hair routine, identify the daily habits that are good for your hair or, on the contrary, those that are bad for it, and eliminate certain preconceived ideas so as to have healthy hair all year round. Are you ready?

Here are our top three tips.

1) A hair diagnosis before you go.

There's no need to pack shampoos, masks, hair brushes and other accessories without checking what your hair really needs.

How to self-diagnose: in front of a mirror, look at your scalp and roots with a magnifying glass in order to detect dandruff, redness, dryness, white hair, excess sebum, etc. Then, look at the lengths of your hair: are they dry, brittle, dull, thinned, colored...? Finally, try to identify their structure: fine, thick, frizzy, etc. Once you have your answers, remember that, like you, your hair needs to breathe, so a minimal routine is the best option. Our best bet: a silicone-free shampoo, a moisturizing oil to be applied from time to time and, above all, no styling tools. Then, just observe your hair’s response over the following days.

2) A daily two minute head massage.

If there's one thing you should do this summer, it's this. Not only will the massage relax you, but it will also boost your hair’s sex appeal. This reactivates blood microcirculation and supplies the hair with vitamins, healthy fats and oxygen causing it to age less, and even better, it will become more beautiful every day.

The right technique: Start with circular movements on the top of the head with your fingertips. Feel the scalp move under your fingers. Without lifting your fingers, make circular movements towards your temples, then towards the back of your neck. Finish by applying pressure points all over the head, identifying the areas that are most beneficial to you. For visible results, remember that the two-minute duration is really important, as is regularity.

3) Space out your shampoo washes.

In the summer, we have a (bad) habit of washing our hair more often than the rest of the year. In fact, we wrongly believe that after a swim in the pool or the sea, the intervention of a shampoo and hair mask duo is essential. However, these repeated washes overstimulate the sebaceous glands, leading to excessive sebum production on the scalp and the ends drying out. This is how the infernal cycle of oily roots and dry ends begins. The right attitude: After a swim in the sea or the pool, a rinse with clear, cold water (to tighten the scales) is more than enough to boost the shine of the lengths. The only condition: rinse your lengths and scalp thoroughly for at least three minutes.

And if possible, try not to exceed two shampoo washes per week.
